Bill Clinton hospitalized to undergo heart bypass surgery
font size

Former US president Bill Clinton is slated to undergo heart bypass surgery Saturday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, local media reported Friday.

A source close to the former president was quoted as saying Clinton went to Westchester Medical Center Friday morning with chest pains.

According to the source, Clinton, 58, has two major blocked arteries.

The ex-president canceled a two-day trip with his wife, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, across upstate New York after suffering chest pains, sources close to the former president said Clinton, who had a penchant for fast-food until he went on the South Beach diet recently and lost weight, has been in good health with no known history of heart problems.

The Clintons' campaign trip was to take them from the State Fair in Syracuse into far northern New York, a traditional Republican stronghold where the former first lady ran surprisingly well in her 2000 election victory.
