Malaysia's former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrived in the southern German city of Munich Sunday for back surgery.
A spokeswoman at the Alpha clinic in Munich confirmed Anwar's arrival without giving other information.
Anwar was released from six years in prison Thursday when the Federal Court in Malaysia overturned his sodomy conviction and nine-year jail sentence imposed by Kuala Lumpur High Court on Aug.2, 2000.
He is scheduled to undergo minimally invasive endoscopic surgery for his neurological problem related to a prolapsed spinaldisc Monday, reports said.
Several thousand supporters thronged Kuala Lumpur airport Saturday night to give him a send-off.
Anwar was appointed Deputy Prime Minister in 1993 and was sacked in September 1998 after leading demonstrations against former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad.
