Beijing Municipal Administration for Production Safety Supervision has urged the establishment of a spokesperson system for safety accidents for the purpose of improving transparency in work safety.
The spokesperson system, officially instituted on Monday in the national capital, means a more transparent administration and related information will be released through authoritative sources, according to a notice issued by the Beijing Municipal Administration for Production Safety Supervision.
The content of information will include a brief introduction of the work unit where an accident occurs, time and venue of the accident, casualties and loss, and rescue efforts and progress.
On-the-spot news briefing is also likely to be held under the condition that rescue work is not disturbed, the notice said.
Beijing had reported 1,016 traffic accidents, accidents of production safety and fires by Aug. 31 this year, in which 1,152 people were killed, according to the Municipal Administration for Production Safety Supervision.
Compared with last year, the number of accidents dropped by 5.5 percent and the death toll down by 2.3 percent.
