Chen Shui-bian advocates "Taiwan Independence" by commending Olympic medallists

At a ceremony held to present "jingxing" medals to the Taiwanese Olympic gold medallists Chen Shixin and Zhu Muyan in the morning of Sept. 6, Chen Shui-Bian said, "We have ascended the international stage through Taiwanese taekwondo players' outstanding performance. Tomorrow we shall break through the hindrance and ask the whole world to recognize the existence of the "country" of Taiwan." Chen expressed his hope for the Taiwanese players to win seven gold medals at the Beijing Olympic Games.

Chen laid emphasis on "Taiwan" throughout his address. He continually called the team "Team of Taiwan". He said Taiwan became the world's focus as the two players stressed in Athens "I'm from Taiwan". With full support from relatives and friends, the players fulfilled Taiwan's dream. "We have ascended the international stage through outstanding performance of Taiwanese taekwondo players," claimed Chen.

When comment on Director of the Sports Committee of the "Legislative Yuan" Chen Quanshou's prediction that Taiwan players will win five gold medals in Beijing Olympic Games, Chen said "It should be five plus two, seven gold medals. Let's struggle in Beijing to win seven gold medals. A-Bian and the "government" will give the players full support."
