More than 1,500 people in Moscow have become donors, giving their blood to the victims of the Beslan tragedy, according to combined reports Itar-Tass received from all the city blood transfusion centers on Wednesday. A total of 903 donors have given their blood at a blood transfusion centre of the Hematology Scientific Centre without asking for pay, said head doctor of the blood transfusion centre Gertruda Orlova.

Viktor Zakharov, who supervises all blood transfusion centers under the Moscow Health Service department, said that 633 donors gave their blood with no money asked on September 6-7.

Around 100-150 donors turn up at the Blood Centre of the Russian Health Ministry, offering their blood, said Department chief Lyudmila Kalinchenko. Besides, blood transfusion brigades every day visit enterprises whose personnel express a common wish to give maximum possible help to the victims. The donor activity has been growing, Kalinchenko said. " It makes one feel sad to see pensioners getting upset because their blood was rejected for age reasons, Kalinchenko said.

Nevertheless, doctors say that donors will be needed for three-four months yet and they are hoping that the number of the donors will not decline.
