2nd Danish soldier faces probe for abusing Iraqi prisoner
font size

A second Danish soldier was suspended during an investigation into Iraqi prisoner abuses at the Danish headquarters in Iraq, said reports reaching here Wednesday from Copenhagen, Capital of Denmark.

Reserve Capt. Annemette Hommel, 37, was sent home in August for investigation after a civilian interpreter complained about the way she interrogated prisoners.

An army investigation related her to several ill-treatment cases in dealing with Iraqi prisoners, including verbal humiliation, restricting access to food and water and forcing them to maintain painful postures.

If proven guilty, Hommel might face a term up to a year in prison. She has denied the charges.
