Chinese President Hu Jintao said Friday that enhancing friendship between China and Vanuatu has become the consensus of the two countries and the common will of the two peoples.
Hu made the remarks during his meeting with visiting Vanuatu Prime Minister Serge Vohor in the Great Hall of the People. Hu said the people of the two countries share a long-standing history of friendly communication. For more than two decades since the two countries established diplomatic relations, bilateral exchanges and cooperation in all areas have been progressing smoothly.
Hu said China appreciates the consecutive governments of Vanuatu for their adherence to the one-China policy and support of China's "great cause" of reunification.
Hu said China is willing to step up high-ranking communications, enhance political trust, expand trade and economic cooperation and promote common development to bring benefits to the two countries and their people.
Vohor also made positive comments on the relations between Vanuatu and China, saying that the two countries have conducted sound cooperation in politics, economics, trade and other areas since the establishment of diplomatic ties.
He said the exchange of visits among leaders and persons from all walks of life has contributed to the friendship between them. He said the government of Vanuatu has supported and will continue to uphold the one-China policy and is ready to further expand relations with China.
