Chinese President Hu Jintao urged the Communist Party and all levels of government to ensure all children from poor families receive an education, Friday.

"So that they could feel the love of the Party and the government and the big socialist family," he said while visiting schools and teachers in Beijing on the 20th National Teachers' Day.

The trip first brought him to Hongzhi High School, a welfare school in the Eastern District of Beijing devoted to enrolling outstanding students from poor families. The nearly 700 students are exempt from paying for miscellaneous expenses, books and uniforms and receive a monthly boarding allowances.

Hu went into teachers' offices and classrooms and spoke with teachers and students.

He noted that a number of children from poor families have received a good education at this school and developed in an all-round way, saying that it is a very significant innovation. He asked the students to value their opportunity and study hard so as to repay the state and society when they grow up.

After leaving the school, Hu visited the homes of a primary school teacher and a retired high school teacher.

While talking with the retired high school teacher, Hu said that the key to the rejuvenation of the country depends on education, and the key to rejuvenating education lies with teachers.

He called on teachers to instruct through words and actions, influence and motivate with exemplary acts and win the respect and love with their academic achievements and outstanding personalities.
