Large-scale hidden coalfield discovered in SW China

A large-scale hidden coalfield is discovered in Xintian district of Qianxi County, Guizhou Province. The discovered reserves in an area of 36 square kilometers amounts to 250 million tons. The area of the hidden coalfield probably exceeds 100 square kilometers, sources say.

As the province with richest coal reserves in South China, Guizhou has coal reserve of 53 bln tons. All the large coalfield in the province are openpit coalfield prior to the discovery of this hidden coalfield. Experts say the discovery shows more hidden coalfields might exist in the province.
