China joins DGF, offers donation of US$5 mlnChina offered a donation of five million US dollars to the Development Gateway Foundation (DGF) as a founding member of the organization, an official from the Chinese Ministry of Finance (MOF) announced Monday. At a ceremony for the donation, Zou Jiayi, deputy director of the MOF's international department, said that China's participation in the DGF as a founding member marks the country's transformation from a pure donation receiver into an international donor of capital and technology. She said that the donation also shows China's commitment to contribute to world peace and development. According to Zou, China has completed the transaction of one million US dollars cash donation and kicked off the 400-million-dollars in-kind contribution programs to the Foundation, including creating and maintaining China's development gateway website, establishing research and education center in Shanghai and Gansu Province and sponsoring an Asian information communications forum next year. Alan Rossi, CEO of the DGF, also extended his welcome and congratulations from Washington D.C through Internet video to China's donation programs. He said that the DGF is a growing enterprise where concerned individuals and organizations could exchange their experience and lessons on cooperation and establishment of development business. The DGF is an independent, non-profit organization initiated by the World Bank and headquartered in Washington D.C, the United States, aiming to promote the use of information and communications technologies for poverty-reduction efforts and sustainable development.
