The Bangladeshi government declared holiday Tuesday in all its offices in the capital as the country broke history of rainfall in 42 years during the past 24 hours ending at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.

Dhaka recorded 341 mm rainfall in the past 24 hours ending at 6:00 p.m. on Monday due to the impact of low in the Bay of Bengal that led to the flooding in the capital city.

Streets near the city center and the main commercial areas have gone under three to four feet water, halting traffic.

Fishes came out in the streets of the capital from lakes and different water bodies and people are fishing in the streets.

Life in the entire Bangladesh came to halt for the last two days as traffic couldn't move and people cannot go to their workplaces, forcing the government to announce holiday Tuesday in the capital.

The Education Ministry Monday night declared educational institutions across the country shut up Tuesday as the whole country experienced non-stop heavy rains during the past two days.

On Monday also, most people could not reach their workplaces as transport stuck up in flooded streets. The Secretariat of Bangladesh, the highest seat of government administration, has gone under two to three feet water.

Most people stayed indoor on Monday and Tuesday. People are not going out unless they have any urgent need.

Weather office announced more heavy rains Tuesday in the capital and elsewhere.

This natural disaster came in the quick heels of a devastating flood the country witnessed during July and August. Reports are coming from the countryside of heavy damage of crops and vegetables by the rains.

The three day's rains killed at least 18 people across the country from mud slides, boat sinking and wall collapse and electrocution.

Meanwhile, the weather office has asked the port authorities toshow danger signal Number Three and asked all fishing boats and ferry services to remain in safer places.

Reports from southern Bangladesh said coastal areas of Bangladesh have been flooded by seven to 10 feet tidal surge forcing thousands of people to evacuate themselves to safer places.
