China firmly opposes US resolution on HK

Chinese Foreign Ministry Tuesday expressed strong dissatisfaction with and firm objection against a US Congress resolution on so-called "support of Hong Kong's freedom".

The US House of Representatives on Monday passed a resolution on so-called "support for freedom in Hong Kong," which interfered in Hong Kong's affairs, the ministry said.

The US House of Representatives again meddled in Hong Kong's affairs and intervened in China's domestic affairs, which not only harms Hong Kong's long-term prosperity and stability and Sino-US relations, but also harms US own interest, it said.

China urged US to stop interfering in China's internal affairs with Hong Kong issues, said Chinese Vice-Foreign Minister Zhou Wenzhong Tuesday.

At a meeting with James Andrew Kelly, US Assistant Secretary for East Asian and Pacific Affairs,Zhou voiced strong dissatisfaction at and firm opposition to a resolution passed Monday by the US House of Representatives on so-called "support for freedom in Hong Kong".

Zhou reiterated China's solemn position on the Taiwan question and requested the US side to adhere to the one-China policy, abide by the three Sino-US joint communiques, stand opposed to "Taiwan independence" and stop selling weapons to Taiwan with concrete actions.

Kelly said the US side attaches importance to US-China relations and China's positions on Hong Kong and Taiwan issues.

There is no change on the US side's one-China policy and its support for the Chinese government's implementation of "one country, two systems" in Hong Kong and the Basic Law, Kelly said.
