"Green" vehicles to be exempt from Thai import tax
font size

Thai cabinet gave the greenlight to abolishing import tariffs on energy efficient vehicles and related equipment for the purposes of research and development.

A government spokesman was quoted by the Thai News Agency as saying Wednesday that the tax exemptions would apply to all vehicles and equipment that could be used as models to develop domestically-produced "green" vehicles.

The government is keen to promote energy efficient vehicles, including those that run on ethanol, as part of an overall drive to beat rising oil prices.
