9 killed in clashes between Pakistani forces, militants

At least nine were killed Tuesday in the clashes between Pakistani security forces and militants in the South Waziristan tribal area bordering Afghanistan, Daily Times reported on September 15.

Four troops were killed in a rocket attack on a military camp in Wana, headquarters of the tribal area, and in an ambush on a military convoy.

Military spokesman Major General Shaukat Sultan confirmed therewere some casualties in the attack on the camp. He also admitted a few soldiers were injured in the ambush but would not say how manytroops were killed.

Clashes between Pakistani forces have been continuing since Friday when a suspected terrorist training camp was attacked by the Pakistani Air Force with a precisely guided missile, leaving about 50 dead.

A ranger and two assailants were killed in a rocket attack on amilitary picket in Kashmore near the Sindh-Balochistan-Punjab border

Tuesday, according to the paper.
