Russia has welcomed a decision by the United States to freeze the accounts of an Islamic foundation suspected of links with al-Qaida and Chechen rebels.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman, Aleksandr Yakovenko said Russia noted this information with satisfaction.
He also said it was an important step by the United States within the frameworks of common fight against international terrorism.
On Friday, the U.S. Treasury Department shut down the Saudi-sponsored Al Haramain Islamic Foundation in Ashland, Oregon, and Springfield, Missouri.
The Department said they have "direct links" with al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden and has supported Chechen mujahedeen.
Earlier, Russia denounced the U.S.'s speech on keeping dialogue with some Chechen politicians after the Beslan tragedy, criticizing that they are to be blamed for the hostage taking event.
