A huge explosion rocked central Baghdad on September 16, after several deadly bombings in recent days, witnesses said.The cause of the blast was not immediately clear, the witnesses said.

Some other witnesses noted that three Iraqis were wounded when a roadside bomb also went off Thursday in the eastern part of the capital.

The bomb, planted on a main road in Al Zaitouna, targeted a US military patrol, they said, adding the patrol escaped unscathed.

On Tuesday, a car bomb killed some 50 people outside a main police station in the capital.
