New trade disputes to come when textile quotas removes

US Under Secretary of Commerce for International Trade Grant Aldonas said in Shanghai on September 15 that the removal of global textile quotas at the end of this year was of great significant in the world history of free trade. But he also warned that his government would consider actions against Chinese textile exports to US if American businesses proposed such actions.

This signals the possibility of new trade disputes on textiles between China and US. Mr. Aldonas' remarks on September 14 about new restrictions to be imposed by US textile producers on Chinese exports as early as next week has already aroused concern in China.

The visit of the delegation led by Mr. Aldonas in China is mainly for a consultation with China about the intellectual property rights protection. Mr. Aldonas expressed his satisfaction to the sincerity China has shown on the implementation of consensus reached at the conference of Sino-US Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade in April.

The US National Association of Manufacturers has signed an agreement with China to create more trade opportunities for small-to-midsize enterprises. Mr. Aldonas mentioned US Department of Commerce would step up efforts on promoting exports of his country's manufacturers to China.
