Ferrero bids farewell to China Open after doubles loss
font size

Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero gave his kiss to the Beijing crowd and left disappointment at the inaugural China Open ATP men's tennis tournament after his first

round loss in the men's doubles and second round failure in the singles in Beijing on September 16.

Ferrero and his teammate Garcia Lopez could not found the rhythm on court when they faced temporary pair Bradon Coupe of the United States and Nathan Healey of Australia in two sets 6-2, 6-3.

Ferrero earlier was beaten 6-4, 6-4 by American Kevin Kim, who has played just 22 ATP matches in the single's second round.

American pair Jastin Gimlstlom/Graydon Oliver ousted Thai brothers Sanchai Ratiwatana/Sonchai Ratiwatana, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Stefen Huss from Australia and Robert Lindstedt of Sweden stopped Mikhai Youzhny of Russia and Rainer Schuettler of Germany by 7-6,1-6,6-4.

Glenn Weiner of the United States and Hyung-Taik Lee of South Korea also took three sets to down Ivo Heuberger of Switzerland and Jarkko Nieminen of Finland, 1-6, 6-1, 7-6(7-4).

Chinese Zeng Shaoxuan/Zhua Benqiang came back to win the second set but Justin Gimelstob of the United States and Taylor Dent of Spain were just too strong for them, losing 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.

Because of the rain, the match between Johan Landsberg, Sweden/Thomas Shimada, Japan, and Yen-Hsun Lu, Chinese Taipei/Kristan Pless, Denmark was suspended after Landsberg/Shimada led 7-5, 4-4.
