Consumer goods in adequate supply in latter half year
font size

According to an analysis report on supply and demand of major consumer goods released by the Ministry of Commerce, supply and demand of 154 kinds of major consumer goods will maintain balanced, accounting for 25.7 percent of 600 types of major consumer goods. The figure rises 2.7 percent compared with the first half of the year. Supply of 446 kinds of consumer goods surpasses demand, representing 74.3 percent of all major consumer goods.

As the report shows, the consumption upgrade has quickened. Spending on housing, automobile, communication equipment, education, medical care, and tourism is on the rise. The supply and demand of agricultural and side-line products turns optimistic.

In general, the structure featuring adequate supply and less demand has not change in the consumer goods market. Due to limitation of resources and market price, supply and demand for certain agricultural and side-line products, e.g. cotton, sugar, will experience big fluctuation.

In the latter half of the year, the supply and demand of major consumer goods will take on such characteristics: increase of grain output, grain planted area, import of grain will lead to great improvement in ability to supply. Due to higher output and increasing import, the supply of edible vegetable oil will surpass demand. The supply and demand for sugar will maintain balanced basically. It is predicted that China will import 2 million tons of cotton the whole year and the total cotton output will exceed 6 million tons, which will result in a supply and demand balance.
