    Rainstorm hit Zhejiang

    A firefighter helps transfer flood victims through the floodwater in Wenling City, east China's Zhejiang Province Sept. 17, 2004. A rainstorm hit the city in the early morning on Friday, causing heavy floods. More than 100 people were transfered to safer places from their flooded houses.

    A bridge over Yangtze River passes test

    On September 17, Yangtze River Bridge II in Wanzhou, Chongqing successfully passed overloading test. The bridge is expected to open to traffic in October this year. It is 1153 meters long and 20.5 meters wide.

    At least 52 died on Black Friday in Baghdad

    On September 17, Iraq encounters a Black Friday. A suicide car bomber slammed into police cars in Baghdad, leaving 3 dead and 23 wounded. American troops rounded up dozens of suspected militants the same day, capping a day of violence across Iraq that left at least 52 dead. At least 52 people died in the violent day.

    Chang'an's new model with intellectual property rights

    CM8, a multi-purpose vehicle developed by Chang'an Auto, debut at Chang'an Industrial Park in Chongqing. Chang'an Auto spent foure years on R&D of the model and is the owner of the intellectual property rights of it.

    Never forget the history

    Local pupils gather in front of the fragmentary monument at the ¡°September 18¡± Incident Museum in Shenyang, capital of northeast China¡¯s Liaoning Province, Sept. 17, 2004. The Japanese Guandong Army stationed in Northeast China suddenly bombarded Shenyang under the excuse of explosions occurred along the South Manchuria Railway on September 18, 1931. In January 1932, all the three provinces in Northeast China were occupied by the Japanese army. To remind the Chinese people of the national humiliation, Sept. 18 was decided as the Day to mark the incident.

    Chinese peacekeeping force leaving for Haiti

The advance troops of riot police composed of 30 members including four policewomen left for Haiti on Friday. At the request of the United Nations, China will send 125 police officers to form a contingent of riot police for a peacekeeping mission in Haiti.
