Senior official stresses moral buildup
font size

More than 100 government officials, scholars and representatives from all walks of life gathered in Nantong, east China's Jiangsu Province, on Saturday to kick off a forum on the morals of Chinese people.

The forum is part of the nationwide campaign of "moral construction" initiated by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) three years ago.

Liu Yunshan, publicity chief of the CPC Central Committee, sent a congratulatory message to the forum, saying it is a long-term task for the nation to boost people's moral.

Both traditional Chinese virtues and the ethics of modern times have become the mainstream of the Chinese society since the CPC Central Committee issued the guideline blueprint of moral buildup three years ago, Liu said.

The development of the market economy has raised the requirement for better moral work, which must be adapted to the construction of an affluent society, said the official.
