font size

Sudanese President Omar El Basher announced here Saturday "the Sudanese government is exerting utmost efforts to resolve Darfur crisis".

Basher made the announcement during his meeting with visiting Spanish Foreign Minister Maguel Angel Moratinos , according to the Sudanese News Agency (SUNA).

"The government is ready to resume the peace negotiations with the Darfur rebel groups at any time," Basher affirmed, quoted by SUNA.

The Spanish foreign minister told SUNA after the meeting that he briefed the Sudanese president on the current discussions on a draft resolution at the UN Security Council, in which Spain is currently holding the presidency.

He expressed his hope that the expected Security Council resolution would give the Sudanese people the chance to solve the Darfur crisis and pave the way for a better future in Darfur.

He called on the rebels to continue negotiations to reach final settlement to the Darfur crisis.

The Spanish foreign minister arrived in Khartoum on Friday for a two-day visit to Sudan.
