Sudan's government vows to stabilize situations in Darfur
font size

The minister of State in the Sudanese Foreign Ministry, Attijani Saleh Fadeil, announced Monday his government will continue the efforts to stabilize the situations in Darfur.

"That is the top priority of the government," the Sudanese official told a press conference .

He said the government has started to study in details the new resolution issued by the UN Security Council Saturday in order to "make out a plan for dealing with the resolution seriously".

He also said the government will simultaneously continue cooperations and consultations with the United Nations special envoy to Sudan Jan Pronk,

On a verification committee suggested by the Security Council resolution in order to probe into the humanitarian situations in Darfur, Attijani pointed to visits of numerous international committees and delegations to Darfur.

"These committees and delegations have proved in their reports that what is happening in Darfur can not be labelled as a genocide", the Sudanese official added.

He affirmed the allegation on the so-called "genocide", which was mentioned by the American congress as well as US Secretary of State Colin Powell, "is connected to the current election campaign in the United States".

"We don't want to be part of this election campaign, nor part of any political struggle in any other countries," said Attijani.
