Chinese State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan said Tuesday that China hopes the Japanese government will attach great importance to the history and Taiwan issues, handle them properly and take concrete measures to maintain the political foundation of Sino-Japanese relations.
Tang said in a meeting with Speaker Kono Yohei of Japan's House of Representatives that the relationship between China and Japan is one of China's most important bilateral relations.
Under the new situation, both China and Japan should adhere to the principle of "learning from history, and looking to the future" and jointly push forward the Sino-Japanese relations, he said.
Kono Yohei said the Japanese side fully understands China's concern and is willing to improve the bilateral ties based on the three key political documents signed between the two sides so as to make positive contributions to the peace and stability in the region as well as in the world.
Kono Yohei, head of a delegation of the Japanese House of Representatives, arrived here Monday for a six-day official visit to China at the invitation of Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, China's top legislature.
