Russia willing to continue six-party talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin says Moscow always supports a nuclear-free Korean Peninsula and stresses the importance of cooperation in the framework of the six-party talks.

Meeting with visiting South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun, Putin said Russia is willing to make joint efforts with Seoul for easing tensions and strengthening peace on the Korean Peninsula.

In a joint declaration, Putin also positively assessed South Korea's efforts for reconciliation and cooperation with North Korea.

Roh Moo-hyun praised Russia's constructive role in ensuring stability, security and cooperation on the Korean Peninsula and in northeast Asia.

He also spoke highly of the role Moscow played in resolving the North Korean nuclear crisis.
