Shanghai will turn to traffic control measures to avoid road congestion when Sunday's Formula One Chinese grand prix makes its debut.
The traffic control area of three different layers will be set from seven o'clock in the morning till half past six at evening through Thursday to Sunday, police sources said on Wednesday.
Traffic police crews are ready to insure transport between the Shanghai International Circuit (SIC), where the race is to be held, and downtown.
About 150,000 spectators are expected to swarm into the small town of Anting in the west Shanghai suburb of JiaDing, 45 minutes drive away from downtown.
The interior and also key traffic control layer is around the SIC, where no automobiles could enter without a special pass granted by organizers. Only about 20,000 passes are available to fit the parking space outside of the Shanghai International circuit.
"The passes are sold together with the tickets, 600 yuan for big-sized vehicles and 300 yuan for small-sized ones," said Wang Meigen, a woman police
official.Organizers have also recommended Shanghai citizens to take buses to the circuit.
30 hundred buses are particularly designated to transport passengers there.
There has been lavish spending on city transport infrastructure, which includes a new network of roads that lead to the track, as well as a subway slated for completion in 2007.
