Chinese Defense Minister Cao Gangchuan met in Beijing Wednesday with Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury, chief of army staff of Bangladesh Army.

Cao, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and state councilor, spoke highly of the friendly relationship betweenChina and Bangladesh, noting that Bangladesh is a good neighbor ofChina and that the Chinese government attaches great importance tothe relationship between the two countries and their armed forces.

In keeping with China's diplomatic policy of "treating neighbors as friends and partners," China is friendly towards Bangladesh and will further consolidate and develop cooperative ties between the two nations, said Cao.

Cao expressed his appreciation for Bangladesh's support of China over a long period of time on numerous issues concerning China's major interests.

Meanwhile, he said, China will continue to support Bangladesh's efforts to play a greater role in regionaland world affairs.

Mashhud thanked China for its long-term selfless aid and assistance and said Bangladesh will continue to support the "One-China Policy."
