Botswana's Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel K. Kwelagobe has said his government adheres to the one-China policy, saying that Taiwan is an inalienable part of the People's Republic of China.

Kwelagobe, who is also minister of presidential affairs, made the remarks in Gaborone on Tuesday night at a reception given by Chinese Ambassador to Botswana Lin Difu to mark the 55th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, which will fall on Oct. 1.

The Botswana minister said that he admired the principle of "one country, two systems" adopted by the Chinese government in resolving the Taiwan issue, adding that this policy is practical and feasible, which has already succeeded in Hong Kong and Macao.

He also said that the government of Botswana is full of confidence in China's unification at an early stage.

Speaking at the reception, the Chinese ambassador gave the guests a brief introduction to China's achievements in the nation's modernization drive, latest developments in relations between China and Botswana, as well as between China and Africa.

Present on the occasion were more than 200 guests, including five Botswana ministers, diplomats from various foreign missions in Botswana.
