US, Pakistan to strengthen anti-terrorism
font size

US President George W. Bush and his Pakistani counterpart Pervez Musharaf have vowed to strengthen cooperation in fighting terrorism, stopping the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and maintaining regional security.

Bush and Musharaf made a joint statement after a meeting on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

In the joint statement, Bush expressed appreciation for Pakistan's efforts in the fight against terrorism.

The two leaders also welcomed the progress of the Joint Working Group on Terrorism and Law Enforcement and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf highlighted the need for addressing the underlying causes that have given rise to hostility and frustration in the Islamic world.

He hoped the United States and other world powers could aid each other in finding solutions to longstanding issues that affect the Muslim world.
