China surpassed the medal total of 72 achieved in the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games, with one more silver medal in the athletics competition of the 2004 Athens Paralympic Games in Athens on September 23.

The Chinese team of Che Mian, Lu Yi, Yang Chen and Zhou Wenjun finished second in 46.86 seconds in the men's T35-T38 4x100 meters relay event, which was China's 26th silver medal and the 73rd overall medal, with competitions less than halfway through in Athens.

China won 34 gold, 22 silver and 16 bronze medals for a medal tally of 72 in Sydney.

The relay event here on Thursday was won by an Australian team in a world record time of 46.73 seconds.
