Liang Guanglie, chief of general staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), held talks in Beijing on September 23 with Haji Awang Halbi Bin Haji MD Yussof, commander of Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
Liang, also member of the Central Military Commission, said China and Brunei enjoy a traditional friendly relationship. Since
the forging of diplomatic ties between the two countries 13 years, the relationship between them and their armed forces has made steady progress.
China is willing to work with Brunei to further enhance the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two armies,
noted Liang. "That not only conforms to the fundamental interests of the people of the two countries, but also contributes to regional peace and stability."
During the talks, Liang also briefed the guest on China's stance on Taiwan issue.
Halbi expressed Brunei's readiness to enhance exchanges and cooperation with China, to make contributions to maintaining the prosperity and stability and to promote common development in the region.
He also reiterated that Brunei will continue to keep to the "One-China Policy".
