Sharapova reaches China Open semis after "29-min win"
font size

Russian tennis superstar Maria Sharapova "beat" an unfortunate Jelena Jankovic in merely 29 miuntes to go through to the semi-finals of the inaugural 585,000 US dollars China Open WTA tournament Friday.

The match ended midway when Jankovic got off the court due to her ankle injury near the conclusion of the first set. Then the Call umpire announced that the win goes to the pretty Russian girl with 5-2.

Sharapova took small effort to grab the win, giving Jankovic two breaks duing the first set. The third seed smashed some powerful big-angel shots and top-spin balls to frustrate her hardworking Serbia and Montenegro opponent.

The Wimbledon champion didn't have to stretch the match too long because Jankovic dropped the match in the 8th game after Sharapova met her match point with a 40-15 lead.

"I started very well, and got several game points. I'm satisfied with my performance," said a comfortable Sharapova after the match.

"Tt's very good to finish the game after one set. But to enjoy myself is the most important thing."

"I'm really disappointed because I can't play the whole match. I can't move freely on the court due to my ankle strain. I have to say sorry to the fans", said a low-mood Jankovic.
