Sudanese opposition leader arrested at Abu Dhabi airport

Abdul Aziz Khalid, a Sudanese opposition military leader, was arrested at Abu Dhabi International Airport Friday upon an Interpol warrant, the official WAM news agency reported.

Khalid, head of the Sudanese Alliance Forces, was arrested upon arrival at the airport on a flight from Cairo and he is charged with committing terrorist acts in Sudan, WAM said.

Khalid is a former Sudanese army general who has been living in Egypt for the past few months.

His Sudan Alliance Forces is one of the military elements of the National Democratic Alliance, a group that has been working to overthrow the regime of President Omar el-Bashir since 1995.
