The president and grass-root soldiers from the army, navy and air force and armed police stationed in the capital city watched the dance, which is known as "Diary of a Soldier", at the China Grand Theater.

The dance, which tells of the experience of a soldier with a great sense of responsibility and mission and reflecting the progress the armed forces made in modernizing itself, drew frequent applause from the audience.

After the stage performance was over, Hu, who is now chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Communist Party of China, congratulated the actors and actress on the successful performance. Hu said the dance is new in terms of its expression, "moving" and "encouraging".
