Thirteen representatives of the Red Youth Vanguard movement were detained during Anti-Capitalism 2004 rally in the center of Moscow on Sunday, a source in the information division of the Moscow police department told Itar-Tass.

The authorized rally of left-wing young people began near the Griboyedov Monument in Chistye Prudy area at 2:00 p.m. local time, and young people headed towards Slavyanskaya Square for a rock concert afterwards. About 500 young people are marching to Slavyanskaya Square, the police said. Reinforced police patrols, OMON special security units and Interior Ministry servicemen are providing for order.

Several activists of the Red Youth Vanguard attempted an unauthorized picket on Red Square at about 3:00 p.m. Moscow time. They were chanting anti-governmental slogans. The picket participants were detained and taken to a local police station. They will be brought to administrative responsibility, the source said.
