US commanders in Iraq ask for no extra troops
font size

The US commanders in Iraq has made no request for additional troops, White House spokesman ScottMcClellan said at a news briefing on Monday.

"There has not been any request for additional troops, The military leaders have told us that they have what they need at this point," McClellan said.

However, "We have always said that we will make sure that our troops have all the resources they need, and we will look to our commanders in the field and our military leaders to make the determinations about what levels of troops are needed to meet our commitments and complete the mission," McClellan said.

US President George W. Bush has said if the US commanders in Iraq request for more troops, he will approve it.

Currently there are about 140,000 US troops and 22,000 coalition troops in Iraq.
