China, Sweden seek further cooperation in various fields

China and Sweden on Monday in Stockholm expressed their willingness to continuously strengthen cooperation and exchanges in various fields.

In a meeting with visiting Chinese Vice Premier Wu Yi, King Carl Gustaf said he is greatly impressed by the sustainable and fast development of the Chinese economy.

Swedish enterprises are very enthusiastic about cooperation with their Chinese counterparts and hope to broaden their exchanges in the fields of economy and trade, science and technology, cultural and education and tourism, he said.

Wu said that since the two countries established diplomatic ties more than 50 years ago, Sino-Swedish relations have been developing steadily.

Understanding and cooperation between the two countries have increasingly deepened, Wu said, adding that bilateral exchanges and cooperation in economy, trade and other sectors have also been fruitful.

Wu praised the king and the royal family for their contribution to the development of Sino-Swedish relations.

In a separate meeting with Wu on Monday, Swedish Prime Minister Goran Persson said he is very satisfied with his country's relations with China.

The Swedish government has attached great importance to cooperation with China and is willing to broaden and deepen its exchanges and cooperation with China while adhering to its "One China" policy, Persson said.

Wu, for her part, said that China and Sweden have the same or similar opinions on many major international issues and have maintained consultation and coordination in bilateral and multi-lateral fields.

Wu arrived in Stockholm on Sept. 25 for a four-day visit to Sweden, which also includes a stay at Gothenberg, the second largest city of the country.
