German Business Weekly issues special German-Chinese bilingual edition

On the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China the influential German Business Weekly issued a special German-Chinese bilingual edition devoted to reporting the increasingly close economic cooperation between Germany and China. This is the second special German-Chinese bilingual edition issued by the Business Weekly since last year. German President Horst Koehler and Chinese President Hu Jintao wrote congratulation messages for the issue. President Horst Koehler wrote: he is confident that China's economic development would be sustainable. President Hu Jintao wrote: looking ahead the cooperation outlook between China and Germany is promising.

The special edition consists of 108 pages in German and 85 pages in Chinese, which are not identical in contents. An exclusive interview with German Chancellor Schroeder is published in the special issue. Chancellor Schroeder said China is not only a country extremely energetic in economy but its global political significance is also growing. China is assuming more and more regional and international responsibilities. Germany is paying attention to this development with strong interest and approval. The success of this process accords not only with Germany's national interests but also with the global interests. Besides the special issue introduces the experience and problems in Germany's economic development as well as information on Chinese investment in Germany.

As learned before the special German-Chinese bilingual edition of the German Business Weekly was officially issued a large German-Chinese economic cooperation symposium was held in Berlin. Personages from various fields such as manufacturing, banking, insurance and consulting industries took part in a three-day discussion on the direction of China's political and economic development, the prospect of privately-run companies and topics such as banking, transportation, R&D and laws. Cheng Lu ,Vice-Chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, also attended the symposium. Ma Canrong, Chinese Ambassador to Germany, and Mr. Clement, German Economics and Labor Minister, made special appearance in the meeting and delivered speeches.

Heinrich. Von. Pierer, chairman of board of directors, Siemens, said in his speech that China has become the actual engine for Germany's export growth. Germany's export to China during the first half of this year has grown 27 percent over the same period in last year, accounting for about one third of Germany's export to Asia. A broad foundation has been established for the economic cooperation between Germany and China. More than 1,600 German companies have been active in China and more than 600 Chinese companies have conducted business in Germany.
