The 6th China International Folk Art Festival, the largest ever in the country, started in Huangshan on Saturday, attracting nearly 500 professional and amateur artists from more than 20 countries, including China, Mexico, France, Germany, Britain, Japan and the Republic of Korea.

The artists performed singing, dance and parade performance in Huangshan, a city known for mountain sight and a world cultural and natural heritage in Anhui Province, east China.

The performances, amid the 7-day national holiday celebrating the 55th founding anniversary of the People's Republic of China, will be staged also in areas surrounding Huangshan through Oct. 7.

From Oct. 8 to 11, 11 selected performances by foreign troupes will be shown in Beijing, and then in Shanxi Province the week after.

The festival is co-sponsored by the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and the Huangshan city government.
