Rita Fan Hsu Lai-tai was reelected president of the third term of Legislative Council (LegCo) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at its first meeting Wednesday.

She won 34 of the 60 tickets for taking the post. Fan had been president of the previous two LegCo terms.

During the meeting, the 60 LegCo members-elect took the oath of office one by one and they swore to uphold the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) of the People's Republic of China and pledged allegiance to the HKSAR, according to the Basic Law.

They also promised to abide by the laws, to be honest in performing their official duty and to serve the HKSAR.

Fan said after she won election that she would continue to be fearlessly, fairly and selflessly preside over the LegCo meetings and do her due duties.

The third term of Hong Kong's Legislative Council, consisting of 60 members, was elected on Sept. 12 by election. According to the Basic Law, the term of their office will be four years.
