Democratic Progressive Party is "greening" so-called "Double 10th Day''
font size

Taiwan's "Double 10th Day'' is very strange this year. After "March 20 election'' the politicians of Blue and Green parties manipulated groups to get opposing awareness on the island, which splits Taiwan into the spectacle of two Taiwans. The spectacle reappears in the "Double 10th Day'' of this year, forming a strange tableau of each party spending its own "national day celebrations''.

After the reelection, the Democratic Progressive Party has frequently weakened ""Republic of China''. In the "Double 10th Day'' a "green Taiwan'' totem similar to the emblem of the Democratic Progressive Party has replaced the red double 10 marker on the "national day'' arch in front of the "presidential office building'' and the light pink plum blossom marker, symbol of "national flower of the Republic of China''.

The "red double 10'' used for more than 50 years has been replaced by two tangerine peace doves; "Republic of China'' by the name "Taiwan'' in English.

The phrase of "Republic of China'' used for more than 50 years has been gradually licked up in the short five years under the rule of the Democratic Progressive Party.

When Lee Teng-hui sponsored "the creation of new constitution'' in May, he announced "Republic of China'' has not existed. On the eve of the "Double 10 Day'' he again appealed to have an ideal of "Taiwan state''.

Facing the action of "going away from China,'' the out-party Kuomintang has launched a drive to defend "Republic of China'' and protested against the "government's'' plan to abolish the tradition of hanging "national flags''.

Having bad relations with the Democratic Progressive Party, the overseas Chinese circles of China Guildhall in Los Angeles decided to cancel "national day parade'' and spent the day in a soft way in a protest against Chen Shui-bian's attempt to abolish the "Republic of China'' following demolishing the photo of Chen Shui-bian.
