font size

DELL Inc. had started to recall power adapters for some of its notebook models because of a risk of overheating, which could lead to a fire or electrical shock, the American company announced on its Web site Friday.

The total number of affected adapterrs could be about 4.4 million worldwide, the Beijing Morning Post cited a Dell China spokesman as saying.

Although most affected products were sold in the United Sates, a considerable number of Chinese customers would also be affected, the spokesman said, adding that it was hard to estimate the actual figure.

The recall covers adapters which are used with some Dell Latitude, Precision and Inspiron notebook computers, according to Dells Web site.

The adapters were shipped to customers between September 1998 and February 2002.

Consumers who had recalled adapters would receive a free replacement, the company said.

Chinese consumers could contact Dell Chinas service center at 800-858-0896 during business hours or via the Internet at www.delladapterprogram.com, the spokesman said.
