A total of 21 people were killed in a road accident that occurred on Sunday morning in southwestern Sichuan Province, said local authorities.

Another body was found on Monday morning. Rescuers are still searching for the three missing, officials said.

The tragedy happened when a bus with 45 aboard fell into the Fujiang River in Pingwu County at about 9:10 a.m. Among the 21 victims, one was from Taiwan, said local officials.

The remaining 21 survivors were wounded and hospitalized.

According to investigators, the bus was on the way from neighboring Chongqing municipality to Jiuzhaigou, a scenic resort in Sichuan, when the bus rushed into the river at a sharp turning.

The insurance company has allocated an initiative fund of one million yuan (about 120,000 U.S. dollars) for compensation.

Further investigation is underway.
