Chinese oil giant Sinopec Corporation signed a deal with the Organizing Committee of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG) on October 11, becoming an official partner of the 2008 Olympics.
"We decided to select Sinopec as our partner after conducting a thorough investigation and all-round evaluation," said Wang Wei, BOCOG vice president, at Monday's signing ceremony.
According to the deal, Sinopec, China's largest oil refining and petrochemical company, will provide sufficient fund and other forms of support for the 2008 Olympics and Paralympics, BOCOG, the Chinese Olympic Committee, as well as Chinese sports delegations for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin and 2008 Summer Olympics.
So far, BOCOG has signed six partners for the 2008 Games, including Germany's automobile giant Volkswagen, China Mobile and Bank of China.
