China stops illegal buildings on farmland
font size

China's Ministry of Land and Resources says it's stopping the construction of buildings on allocated farmland by reducing the number of development zones by two thirds.

Since last year the government has recognized land management as an important aspect of macro economic control measures.

The ministry says many local governments have established farmland protection information management system.

China's farmland has been reduced by seven million hectares from 1997 to 2003.
