Chinese premier meets US guests
font size

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met Friday with some scientists from the United States who are attending the 25th meeting of China-US joint committee on high energy physics.

The scientists, including T. D. Lee and joint committee chairman Robin Staffin, are here to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the cooperation between China and the US in this field.

Wen said that the cooperation was initiated by late Chinese leader Deng Xiaoping, who signed the first agreement with the US on scientific cooperation upon his visit of the United States 25 years ago.

Since then, China and the US have signed 24 agreements on high energy physics and have launched nearly 500 projects, Wen said. The cooperation contributes to the scientific development of the two countries as well as social progress.

Wen also met with John Thain, chief executive officer of the New York Stock Exchange Friday.
