The CPC Central Committee and the State Council recently issued a Suggestion on Further Strengthening and Improving Ideological and Political Education among College Students.

The Suggestion stressed that college students, as precious human resources, are hope of the Chinese nation and future of the country. To strengthen and improve college students' ideological and political quality and foster them into builders and successors of the socialist drive are of great and far-reaching strategic significance in fully implementing the national strategy of rejuvenating the country by relying on science and education, sharpening China's competitive edge on the international arena and ensuring the building of a well-off society in an all round way. It also serves to accelerate reaching China's grand goals in socialist modernization and ensure that the prosperous socialist undertakings are carried on.

The Suggestion breaks into nine parts. I. To strengthen and improve the ideological and political education among college students is an important and urgent strategic task; II Guidelines and basic principles in strengthening and improving ideological and political education among college students; III Major tasks in strengthening and improving ideological and political education among college students; IIII, To give full play to the guiding role of class teaching in education work; V To make efforts in expanding new efficient ways under new situations; VI, To give full play to the important role of Party and League organizations; VII, To devote major efforts to staff construction in education work; VIII To make efforts to create a favorable social environment for education work; VIIII To earnestly strengthen guidance over ideological and political education work among college students.
