Li Changchun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met with Pierre Mores, president of the Council of State of Luxembourg, and his party in Beijing on October 15.
Li said China and Luxembourg have share a the common interest in safeguarding peace and development, and have enhanced cooperation in international affairs.
The two countries have maintained long-term cooperation on finance and metallurgy, and have expanded exchanges in the spheres of science and technology, culture and education, he said. China will promote bilateral cooperation with Luxembourg in all fields to push forward bilateral ties and consultations in the multilateral organizations.
Li said China is trying to observe the strong points of other peoples worldwide while developing its own traditional culture. Luxembourg has the successful experience in developing modern culture, and the two countries should promote exchanges and cooperation on culture, he added.
Mores said Luxembourg and China have enjoyed smooth relationship since the two countries forged diplomatic ties more than three decades ago. They have experienced increased political trust and expanded economic cooperation.
He cited China as a generator of the world economy and said he hoped to learn more about China through the visit and advance the relations between the two countries.
Noting that 2005 marks 30th anniversary of the official ties between China and the European Union and Luxembourg will serve as the president country of the EU in the year, Mores pledged that Luxembourg will make effort to promote the relationship between the EU and China.
