font size

The electronics buyers are hunting for green and slim products for 2005, according to a survey which released on October 15 by Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC).

The TDC commissioned an independent market survey company, Oracle, to conduct a survey at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Autumn Edition) being held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center. A total of 708 buyers and 420 exhibitors were interviewed.

According to the survey, an average of about 70 percent of the respondents say green electronics products are growing popular in their markets. Buyers would like to source green products that areefficient in energy consumption, environmentally friendly in packaging, and materials able for recycling, the survey said.

Buyers are also looking for slim and flat screen television sets, such as LCD TV and Plasma TV, it said. Players expect traditional CRT TV to be replaced by slim and flat screen TV in four to five years. LCD TV is widely regarded as the main stream product in future TV market. Price of flat screen TV is expected to become more affordable in three to four years.

On market outlook, near to 80 percent of respondents expect 2005 to be better or slightly better than 2004.
