Spanish PM calls Iraq war a "massive mistake"
font size

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero tells his British counterpart Tony Blair at a summit in Hungary that the war in Iraq had been a "massive mistake".

He also said the US and UK troops should be responsible for the mounting violence in Iraq, China Radio International reported Saturday.

Several leaders, among them Chile's President Ricardo Lagos and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin supported Zapatero's position.

On the same summit, Blair sought to justify the Iraqi war and called for closing gaps to reconstruct the post-war Iraq.

Eleven world leaders have attended the sixth annual summit on progressive governance which began Thursday evening at Lake Balaton in western Hungary and ended later Friday.
